Located within the Aquarela residential building in Cumbayá, this renovation redefines the kitchen as the central spatial core of the apartment. Rather than functioning as a conventional service area, the project transforms the kitchen into an integrating element capable of connecting the social spaces with the private living quarters.

The intervention is based on the idea of liberating the kitchen from its secondary condition and repositioning it as the center of everyday life. The central island acts as a continuous horizontal element that organizes circulation, encourages interaction, and establishes a direct relationship between the living-dining area and the circulation towards the bedrooms. The kitchen is no longer conceived as an isolated room, but as a spatial device for social connection.

Materiality was approached through a warm and restrained atmosphere. Light surfaces, natural wood cabinetry, dark metallic profiles, and suspended brass-finished pendants create a balance between minimalism and sophistication. Integrated indirect lighting within the cabinetry and ceiling details emphasizes the continuity of surfaces and adds depth to the space, producing a calm and intimate domestic environment.

The project also incorporates home automation and programmable lighting systems, allowing the atmosphere to adapt to different moments throughout the day. Technology is integrated discreetly, prioritizing spatial clarity and comfort over explicit technological expression.

This renovation explores how a precise interior intervention can completely transform the domestic experience of a home. Through carefully calibrated decisions in furniture design, lighting, and spatial organization, the kitchen becomes the true heart of the apartment — a space for gathering, permanence, and everyday interaction.
