OFFICE TOHME MARTINEZ

Office Tohme Martinez is an architectural practice founded by Santiago Martinez and Juan Tohme. The office works across multiple scales and building types, developing projects in the United States, Mexico, Italy, Argentina, and primarily in Ecuador. The practice operates through a collaborative structure supported by a team of more than fifteen architects, engaging in architectural, urban, and cultural projects in diverse contexts.

The work of the office is situated within territories marked by social, economic, and spatial complexity, particularly in Latin America. Architecture is approached as a disciplinary field through which spatial, cultural, and urban questions are addressed, and as a medium for proposing new spatial models in regions undergoing rapid transformation. The practice engages with both private and public commissions, as well as independent cultural initiatives, and works across disciplines.

The professional practice is combined with academic research and teaching, creating a continuous exchange between built work and academic inquiry. Santiago Martinez and Juan Tohme are currently professors at Universidad San Francisco de Quito, and have also taught at other academic institutions. Their academic work includes research and the development of projects in collaboration with local communities, as well as investigations on architectural, urban, and territorial topics, which inform and expand the scope of the practice.

Office Tohme Martinez is led by Santiago Martinez and Juan Tohme, together with associate José Coba. The diverse backgrounds and experiences of the international team contribute to the practice’s work. The office has received national and international awards, and its projects have been published and exhibited in different contexts.
